Makeup By One Direction Review

by - August 07, 2014

Happy Thursday!

Finally I'm bringing you guys the post that I planned to share on Tuesday!  Better late than never right?  If you remember a couple weeks ago I posted about the Makeup By One Direction Giveaway, well if you happen to be one of the lucky winners you are going to receive your own limited edition makeup kit.  Like I said in that post, there are three different kits that were created by the band and Markwins and I was sent one to review for you guys!

The kit I received is the Take Me Home kit.  I will admit that it was not the kit I was hoping to receive,  I was hoping to get the Midnight Memories kit to really check out the color payoff in that red lipstick.  But alas we can't always get what we want right?

As stated in the previous post, each kit contains one 4+1 eye shadow palette, one lip gloss, one lipstick, a mascara, one nail polish, one jumbo eye and body pencil, and finally five stencils.  As you can see the Take Me Home kit contains all these products paired so you can create a "girl next door look".

These collectable tins would be wonderful for a young One Direction fan or any girl who is new to makeup because each one has a graphic on the inside of the lid explaining three different looks that can be obtained by using the products inside.

Now let's get into the products shall we?

First up is the 4+1 eye shadow palette which includes four powder shadows and one creme shadow in the center.  In this particular kit, the shadow palette comes with a gold creme shadow called Take Me Home.

As for the powder shadows, they are all very soft and overall they are not very pigmented when used with a brush; however, they blend well and they aren't extremely powdery.

As you can see the cream color is a little hard to see, but it works well as a subtle brow highlight.  Like I stated previously this kit would be ideal for makeup beginners.

I have been playing with this palette for about a week and I have to say this has been one of my go to looks with it.  I prime my eyes with Urban Decay primer then take the cream shade, Back For You, and put it all over my lid all the way up to the brow.  Next I take the taupe shade, C'mon C'mon, and put it in the middle of the lid and take a larger brush and put it through the crease.  Next I take the darkest shade, Little Things, and put it on the outer edge of my eye and take a slightly smaller brush and concentrate it more in my crease.  As for the orange shade, Change My Mind, I take a brush and dab it lightly over the inner part of the eye.  Then I create a wing, for this look I used CoverGirl's Bombshell liquid eyeliner.  and Finally I took the creme shadow, Take Me Home and run it under my lower lashes.

The jumbo eye and body pencil in the kit is called I Wish and it is a warm chocolate brown.  I have been using this in my upper and lower waterline for a softer look than using black.   The pencil is creamy and glides on easily.

Next is the Liquilights Glow Gloss called Kiss You.  These lip glosses are supposed to change color under UV light, and this orange colored gloss is supposed to change to a neon yellow under UV lights. I have to say that I am not impressed by this gloss.  It doesn't have any detectable scent; however, it is full of chunky glitter.  And I was hoping that when it was on the lips you wouldn't be able to feel the glitter but that just isn't the case.  Not to mention when you wipe the gloss off the glitter is left behind in an unattractive glittery mess.

Next is the lipstick in the kit called Last First Kiss which is described as a nude pink lipstick.  This has to be the most disappointing thing in the kit for me.  It is not pigmented and it is very sheer. Not to mention this pink lipstick seems like such a strange choice to go into a kit full of warm toned makeup and I don't really find that I like using this lipstick when I use the rest of the kit.  I typically reach for lipsticks that are opaque, but this lipstick would be ideal for a young girl just getting into makeup.

The nail polish in the kit it called Live While We're Young and is a glitter polish that has large gold flecks and several multicolored flecks with a clear base.  I haven't used it yet, but I can imagine that it will take a few coats to build up to the ideal amount of glitter.

The final thing in the kit are five stencils that you can use to decorate yourself, your stuff, or your friends.  I can't say that I will use these very often, but I might use them to decorate stuff.

The collection is going to be a worldwide collection starting in the U.S., and will begin with an official release date of August 11 at Macy's stores.  The collection will also be released at Stage Stores, Dillards, Beauty Brands, and Lord and Taylor on August 25.   At this time no dates have been set for the international release.

I hope y'all enjoyed this post and don't forget to like the Makeup by One Direction Facebook page.

This kit was sent to me by BrandBacker all opinions are 100% my own and were not influenced in any way.

    1. Thanks for stopping by! Cool toned items tend to be favorites of mine, they just seem to work better with my skin tone but overall I am really pleased with this collection as well! How is the lipstick in your collection?
