Fairmount Beauty

Hey guys!

I have another exciting post to share with you guys!  As you probably know by this point, this is my favorite time of year.  I live in the South where this time of year is typically the perfect temperature, and I enjoy playing with various makeup trends this time of year since I know it won't melt off in the heat.  I was incredibly excited when I learned about the campaign with Adore Me.  Adore Me, as many of you probably already know, is an intimates company that is based out of New York.  I know I have seen their website in the past, and I believe I have seen commercials as well.  I was especially interested in their bras and panties page while I was exploring their website, and I must say that there are great options for women of all shapes and sizes!  I was sent the graphic below where the company has come up with a pairing for some of their favorite lingerie sets and beautiful fall makeup looks.  As I was exploring their website I found two sets that are my style, and proceeded to draw inspiration from each one.  Both of my looks are incredibly simple, and can be changed in a variety of ways to suit any situation!

The first set I was inspired by is the Lidia Push-Up which is a beautiful racerback with black lace.  This set spoke to me because of it's classic simplicity which is something that I really like to do with my makeup looks.

For this first look I pulled shadows from the Lorac Pro 1 palette.  I find myself reaching for this palette every fall (you will see how much of it is gone in just a second).   For this look I decided to go for the classic nude eye.  I started by mixing White and Nude all over the lid and up to the brow to set my primer and prep the lid so the shadows will blend smoothly.  After that I pulled Mauve into the crease (for this look I would have typically used Taupe but it is completely gone).  I blended Mauve out with a fluffy shadow brush to create a really blown out crease.  Then I took Lt. Bronze and concentrated the light golden color on the inner half of the eye.  You could leave the look like that or you could take Sable on the outer half of the lid for the addition of some soft drama like I did.  If you want the look to be even deeper the Lorac palette also contains a deeper brown, Espresso, which you could concentrate on the outer corner of the lid for a little sexier look.  My only advice when using this palette is to tap off your brush after each dip into the pan.  The shadows are so soft that the  brush will pick up a ton of product.  As always be sure that you blend, blend, blend!

As you can see I chose three different lipstick options for this look.   If you are into the nude lips you can pair this look with L'oreal Fairest Nude for the most simple look.  The middle of the three options is the one that I am personally the most comfortable with, and find myself reaching for.  The middle option is for my girls that are into the mauvey nude lip trend.  I used the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Lolita.  This lipstick will last you all day as long as you don't top it with a gloss, or eat anything with an oily substance.  The last lipstick I chose is for the ladies that like the bold reds.  Every now and again I really enjoy breaking out these colors, and this NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella is very comfortable.

I mentioned above that I used the Lorac Pro 1 palette (bottom right)  for my look; however, this look is so neutral that you can really use any neutral palette to achieve the same thing.  The three high end options I have above are the Borghese Eclissare Color Eclipse palette ($55, top left), the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette ($54, bottom left), and the Lorac Pro 1 ($44, bottom right).  You can also achieve the same look with two of my favorite palettes from the drug store, the CoverGirl TruNaked palettes in Goldens and Nudes which retail for around $10 each.  The shadows in these palettes rival the softeness of the Lorac shadows and blend really easily, so I highly recommend them!

The second set that I was inspired by is the Alain Push Up set in this beautiful berry shade.  Personally this shade just screams fall to me, and I love it.  I decided to break out my Covergirl TruNaked palette in Roses to create a nude look that is more on the berry side of the spectrum.

For this look I took the first shade in the palette and placed it on my lid all the way up to the brow bone to set my primer.  This shade has a little shimmer in it, but it's not nearly as strong as shade two which I used on the inner corner and the under the brow as a stronger highlight.  Next I took the third shade and used it in my crease as a soft transitional color.  I used shade five all over the lid as a fun purple shade, and added shade seven on the outer half of the lid and softly under the lower lashes.  Finally I took shade eight and concentrated it on the outer corner of the lid and topped everything off with a purple liner that is nearly black.

This look is rather subtle; however, if you have blue eyes it will really make your eyes pop.  Again I chose three different lipsticks for this look.  I used L'oreal Fairest Nude again because this lipstick is the perfect shade for nearly every look.  If you are more interested in a mauve toned nude I also chose Essence lipstick in Barely There (middle) which is the perfect compliment to the purple tones of this look without making you look washed out.  Finally for the bold ladies I chose a fun shade that I don't bust out nearly enough, Wet 'n Wild's Ferguson Crest Cabernet from the Fergie line.  This lipstick is supposed to be along the same lines of MAC's Rebel.  I'm one of those girls that is scared of breaking out a full on purple lip, so this particular shade is perfect for me.  It has just enough purple in it to be different from everything in my collection, but it remains on the more berry toned side of the spectrum for me to feel comfortable and I feel like it really brought out the deep purples of the look while making my teeth look white!

I really don't have that many palettes in my collection that are dedicated to the berry tones since I tend to stick to the more neutral side of the shadows; however, I did manage to dig out a couple options.  The top palette is the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette ($54),  the bottom left palette is the Wet 'n Wild Au Naturel palette in Nude Awakening (under $10), and the bottom right is the CoverGirl TruNudes Roses palette (around $10).

Like I mentioned above, I love fall makeup and pulling inspiration from the changing of the seasons.  Personally I think the perfect combination is a simple neutral eye, a bold lip, a pair of leather boots, and a cozy blanket scarf!  What are some of your favorite fall combinations?

Hey guys!

I was approached by Vegas.com to share some tips and tricks I would use to keep me looking great day to night in beautiful Las Vegas.  A few months ago my girlfriends and I made the decision that we are going to travel to Vegas in the spring for several days for my bachelorette party (can anyone say Hangover movie?) so I decided that this would be a great collaboration to share some of our plans and give you some tips for keeping your makeup looking fresh and appropriate day to night!

During the day in Vegas there are many things to do outside of the casinos, which you can see on Vegas.com's attractions page.  With this in mind, I am planning on keeping my makeup fairly simple during the day.   My girls and I are most likely to choose to go on a tour of the city or even go on a desert chase in dune buggies instead of finding something inside to do all day, so let's talk about a look simple look that would hold up in these conditions.

While I was choosing products to use for this look I tried to find products in my collection that would give me a variety of options without having to pack a million products since I will be flying to Vegas in the spring.  As you can see in the photo above I have pulled out my Maybelline Lip Gloss palette for my lip product.  This palette is great for traveling since the palette contains everything from nudes to reds which you can mix and match to create even more shades.  I also pulled out some E.L.F. palettes which are great for travel since each pan can be popped out and placed into any of the other palettes, and each palette contains a large mirror.

For both looks I am going to share with you, my basic face makeup is exactly the same which makes it very easy to transition your look from day to night.   The first product I am going to share in the Shea Moisture Primer which is essential for making your makeup last all day long.   This primer can be found at Ulta for $15.99 and feels very similar to a moisturizer as opposed to a silicone primer.  The next item in my routine is the Hard Candy GlamoFlauge concealer.  Any concealer you prefer will work; all we want to do is conceal any red spots on the face before we apply foundation.  Typically I always grab a second concealer that is a peach or pink tone to conceal the dark circles under my eyes.   This will help to keep you looking fresh and awake all day long.  The peach concealer I chose for this look is the NYX Dark Circle Corrector in Light/Pale.  The foundation I chose for my look is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation in Ivory.  This foundation is really great for my oily skin because it stays all day long without breaking down along my nose until very late in the day.  For a long day sight seeing in Vegas this is the type of foundation that is going to be necessary for my oily skin.   Finally the most important step for me is to set my foundation.  I have been reaching for the Coty Airspun Loose Powder in  Naturally Neutral for years now, and I have found that I don't have to touch up or powder my face again until late afternoon.  For traveling I'm not sure that I will choose to pack a loose powder, so it is likely that I will pack the CoverGirl Clean powder instead.   The last item in the above photo is the Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer.  This primer is an absolute necessity for keeping my shadow from creasing and fading away.

The next items in my list are the E.L.F. palettes.  Above you can see I have three different palettes pictured; however, when I pack to travel I always pop out different pans to mix and match and create the perfect custom palette for my week away.  This technique helps me keep the number of items I pack down while still giving myself enough variety.  The above palettes are the bronzer palette (left), the blush palette in light (middle), and the illuminating palette (right).

For both my daytime and night time looks I used the AmpliMascara to give my lashes a nice dark coat of mascara.  Obviously for the daytime look I used only a couple coats, but for the night time typically I add a couple more coats on top of the mascara I have had on all day long which helps to make a fresh look along with providing more drama to the look.  Once I am finished with the entire look I always use a setting spray, and the one I have on hand at the moment is the Maybelline Master Fix Setting Spray.  This will help make the powders we applied on top of each other meld together and look less cake-like.   Like I mentioned above I also chose to use the Maybelline Lip Gloss Palette which allows me a ton of variety in color and the ability to mix colors to create new ones.

Now let's talk about each look I chose to create for my Vegas looks.  Above is the day look I created (please forgive me for my crazy hair; however, I can't say that it would look much different during a day adventure in Vegas).   For this simple look I used all of the face products I mentioned above for something that would last through going riding through the desert or even driving sports cars.  For my eyes I used Scenic City Cosmetics' Whiskey on the entire lid and Scenic City Cosmetics' Coke & Whiskey on the outside corner to provide a little dimension.   To keep things fairly light I chose to use a brown liner to line my lid and my waterlines.  For the liners I chose a jumbo stick from Milani (the name has long been sharpened off of it, so please forgive me for that), and Sephora's gel liner (waterproof formula) in Caffine Buzz.  I applied a couple coats of mascara and I chose the light mauvy nude gloss from the Maybelline palette (second color in the palette).

Now let's compare my look for the night on the town seeing shows such as Cirque du Soleil Zumanity at the New York New York (which my girls and I plan on seeing), or any of the other shows you may choose to see.  There are other great shows to fit anyones needs, check out some of the great Las Vegas deals on Vegas.com for more options!  To keep things simple the best way to transition your look from day to night is to simply touch up the face products that need to be touched up (foundation, concealer, and definitely powder) then to add a deeper shadow to the eyes.  For my look I chose to use Scenic City Cosmetics' Coke & Whiskey all over the lid.  Remember I used this same shadow just on the outer corner of the eye before, so for a night full of seeing shows, and some drinks with my girls, I decided to use this shadow all over for a little darker look.  I was also inspired by the colors of the desert, so I layered Scenic City Cosmetics' Cherry Cola in the center of the lid along with Scenic City Cosmetics' Whiskey in the very center.   To amp up the depth of the look I chose to use a black liner on the water line and along the upper lashes along with a few more coats of mascara on top.  For lips I chose to mix the two red shades in the Maybelline palette to provide a bit more interest to the look.  If you prefer to have something a bit more subtle you can always keep the same mauvy nude lip color that I used for the daytime look.

Above are the three shadows from Scenic City Cosmetics that I used in the looks I showed.  From left to right: Coke & Whiskey, Whiskey, and Cherry Cola.   When you pair these shadows with the Lorac Behind the Scenes Eye Primer they will last all day long through any of the activities you may choose in Vegas.   After all what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!

Remember to check out Vegas.com  if you plan on making a trip out west like we are.  Just from exploring their website you can purchase hotels, airfare, tickets to shows, tours, and plan weddings all from their website.  Should you need more assistance you can chat with a Vegas insider right on their website.   Believe me when I say that my girls and I will be using the website as we plan our trip in the spring!

What are your tips for transitioning your look from daytime to night time?

Hey guys!

I have been so busy in the last few weeks just trying to get my new business adventure going and going through the process of buying a house.  It has been pretty crazy, but I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend!  Today I am going to share with you the latest purchase I have made for my expanding makeup collection!

I have been seeing the Ikea Alex drawer systems for a long time floating around the makeup bloggers and YouTubers, and I have always wanted to purchase one for myself; however, the closest Ikea to me is roughly two hours away, and I don't typically make trips in that direction.  In searching the internet for an alternative I noticed many people posting their pictures of the Recollections 5 drawer cube from Michael's.  The system looks just the same as the Ikea Alex drawer system, and honestly they are roughly the same price.  I made my way to Michael's here in town several months ago to see if I could find it, and it was no longer in stock at either store in my town.  My next plan was to get my fiancee to build me a replica because I couldn't find anything in town that was similar, or anything that I even liked, but he decided that he didn't want to do that.

I had to run into Michael's for something and I noticed they had some new storage solutions in the middle of the aisle.  One of them was the Recollection 5 drawer cube
; however, it was a "rustic" version.  It looked like it was a terrible version of laminate wood, and they only had a 40% off clearance sale going on so I decided to pass up on the system once again.  I wound up in the store again two weeks ago picking up some things for my new business adventure and it just happened to be that the items I was picking up were in the same aisle as the storage solutions, and to my amazement there was one of these Recollections 5 drawer cubes in stock and it was the white laminate, just like I had been looking for!  Just one and the best part was they had all the storage solutions marked down as 60% off!  That's right 60% off!

I ended up picking up the Recollections 5 drawer system for about $35.  Overall the directions were pretty straightforward.  The only issue I encountered was with the drawer bottoms.  Initially I was sliding them in the wrong direction and it was fitting a little wrong.  I thought we were going to have to cut each one of the bottoms to fit right, but I tried turning them 90 degrees and everything went together correctly.

The drawers are just the right depth for storing all of my lip products.  As you can see some of the containers I put in the drawers were piled up with too many products so I had to store them in front of the containers.  The depth of the drawers would be perfect to create a custom lipstick organizer, and all of your lipsticks could be stored in the upright position.  All of the containers in the drawers are from the drawer organizer meant for screws and bolts that I picked up from Lowe's several years ago.

In my drawer system I have my lip products in the top two drawers.  The third drawer contains a few more lip products that wouldn't fit in the upper two drawers, and some of my other powders and containers that don't fit in my vanity.  You can also see my new Z Palette in the drawer which contains the shadows from my new business adventure, Scenic City Cosmetics.  I'll talk about that a little more below and in an upcoming post! The last two drawers are full of the materials I need for Scenic City Cosmetics.

If you are looking for an alternative to the Ikea Alex drawers be sure to check your local Michael's stores to see if they have this drawer system in stock.  I thought they were never going to bring it back, but it seems that they are showing back up in stores.  Regular price the Recollection 5 drawer cube is $89, but be sure to check for coupons or wait for the sales!

Like I mentioned above I have decided to start a new business adventure of creating my own makeup.  Everything that I am offering will be inspired by things around the Scenic City and things in my own life.  Everything is made by me and packaged by me.  If you are interested I will be sharing a post in the next few days containing swatches and a few looks you can create using my shadows.  I currently have 25 items listed in my shop.  I offer both 26mm pans for $7.50 and 15mm pans for $5.00 and I am working on a few more shades to offer.

Hey guys!

I know it has been a long time since my last post; however, I am going to do my best to get back on to a regular schedule of posting this time.   Tonight I am going to share my review of the Maybelline Lip Gloss Palette.  I know this is not a new product; however, I have mixed feelings on it.

It is nice to see drugstore brands starting to bring out palettes of all kinds.  This particular palette is great for those who travel frequently and want to be prepared with every color they could need.  You can always mix the shades in the palette to create new ones as well.   I picked my palette up from Walmart right after they launched for around $10.   The palette contains eight colors and includes a lip brush.

I have to say my biggest disappointment with the palette is how shallow the pans are.   I hit pan on one of the shades the first time I swatched them, and after swatching each color for this post I have pan on every color.  I noticed that the top layer of each shade has a bit of a film on them, so it takes a lot of pressure to get down into the product the first time you use them.  However, once you get through that film, the actual lip glosses are nice.  I was expecting the entire palette to be a dud and more along the lines of the cheap palettes you see around the holidays at the drugstore; however, each color has a decent amount of pigment to them.  The deepest red in the palette is pigmented enough that it shows up as a deep red; however, it is still sheer enough that it isn't too bold for me.  I don't tend to reach for bold lip colors, so this color is right up my alley.

The first color in the palette is a light nude pink.  This color is pretty light and a bit on the sheer side on me, but it does provide a bit of color and can be mixed with some of the more bold colors to tone them down.

The second shade in the palette is the one I have used the most.  It is a nude that has a bit of a purple undertone to it in my opinion.  This is the type of nude that I feel can go with any look.  Unfortunately I don't have any other lip glosses in my collection that are quite this shade so once it wears off I have to switch to another color since this palette doesn't lend itself to being friendly for dwelling in my purse.

The third shade in the palette is a light pink that borders on purple.  I really like this shade mixed with the second shade in the palette.  This shade is great for those who want to wear purple, but don't want to look like you have Barney on your lips.

The fourth gloss is a typical pink gloss.  The color itself is not anything unique, but it is another that I have gotten the most use of in this palette.

The fifth color in the palette is a peachy nude gloss.  This particular shade tends to be the most streaky and uneven for me.  This is the only gloss in the palette that doesn't show up even after I build it up.

The sixth color is a coral pink.  This shade is another one of my favorites in the palette.  I don't reach for corals very often because the shade makes my teeth look overly yellow (think buttered popcorn); however, I can wear this coral since it is mostly pink.  It also helps me to wear shades like this in gloss form since they tend to be a bit more sheer.

The seventh shade in the palette is a traditional red.  The gloss is a little on the sheer side; however, it is opaque enough that the color shows up.

The final shade in the palette is a berry red.  This shade in the palette looks really dark and intimidating; however, it sheers out into a beautiful berry.  The color is not streaky, and is opaque.  This is the first shade I swatched and wore from the palette and I was really impressed.

Overall, my opinions of this palette are split.  I wish that the pans were a bit deeper, especially for the price.  However, the glosses in the palette are nice and have a decent amount of color payoff to them.  Each gloss has a decent amount of thickness to them which makes them last longer on the lips.  Although the glosses last for a decent time on the lips, I always carry tubes of gloss in my bag or pocket since this palette isn't the best for daily reapplication at work.  However, I think this palette is great for travel.  I know I tend to overpack lip colors when I travel, so this palette helps cut down on the amount I pack.

If you have tried this palette let me know what your favorite color is below!

Hey guys!

I am updating you on my progress on the five products I chose to finish up before May 5th.  If you remember in my Intro video I mentioned that I would replace products as I used them up.  I have finished my first product and have added in another to replace it.  My goal is to see how many products I can use up by May 5th.

The original products I had in this project are the Rimmel Lip Liner in Eastend Snob, Maybelline Fit Me Concealer - 15 Fair, ELF HD Undereye Setting Powder, ELF Complexion Perfection Powder, and the Urban Decay Primer Potion - Original.

Since my first update I have finished the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and I have added in the Physicians Formula Kohl Kajal Liner in Black to replace it.

If you are interested I will be sharing my update for Pan That Palette 2015 next week so you can check out my intro video here!

Are you guys participating in any project pans?  If so I would love to know!

Hey guys!

Today I am going to share a short review of the OCC Lip Tars I have picked up recently.  Each of the large tubes in the picture above retail for $18 at Sephora and on the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website.   As for the smaller tubes, these come in a set with the OCC lip primer for $19.  All of the OCC Lip Tars, including the test sizes, come with a lip brush.

Hey guys!

If you remember a few weeks ago I put up a picture on Instagram showing these three pretty little palettes.  Well today I am bringing you my official review now that I have played around with them and created four different eye looks.

The palette on the far left, Magnificent Mile, is the palette that originally caught my attention while browsing the makeup at my local Sally Beauty Supply.  I thought the deep purple and the green would be wonderful for fall and it had the gold and light cream shade mixed in.  The color that concerned me in the palette was the blue, but I figured I could find something to do with it.

These palettes retail at $7.99 each from Sally Beauty Supply.  Each one has a drawer on the side that pulls out with a typical sponge applicator and a small mirror.  Typically I don't use these applicators and I found it was no different with these palettes and the location of the mirror is really inconvenient.  I also have to pull out other shadows to use with these palettes since they do not contain any matte shades. With all of that said, they are highly pigmented when you use your fingers.  I would suggest putting on your eye makeup before your foundation since these have a bunch of fall out.

As you can see in the picture above all of the shadows are highly pigmented and they are all shimmery.  The palette above is Magnificent Mile which originally caught my attention.  The purple in the palette is a wonderful eggplant color which works well for the fall.  These shadows aren't the softest shadows I have ever felt and they tend to be a little more difficult to blend but if you have a little patience you can create some cool looks.

The above picture was created using the purple in the Magnificent Mile palette along with the Lorac Pro palette.  In the crease I used Mauve in the crease and in the center of the lid.  I used cream on the inner third of my lid and finally the purple from the Magnificent Mile palette on the outer portion and below the lashes.  It turned out to be darker than what I normally wear, but I ended up loving the finished look.

The next palette I picked up was NOLA.  The vibrant purple in this palette is what initially caught my eye, but naturally the first look I created from the palette was using that gorgeous red.  I had honestly never thought of using a red eye shadow before, but I was able to make it work.  Again all of the shades are highly pigmented except the purple.  To get the color in the swatch it took two layers.

The above look was created using the red shadow from the NOLA palette.  The inner half of my eye has Cream from the Lorac Pro palette and the outer half is the red shadow.

Another look from the NOLA palette uses the blue shadow.  I started out with NYX jumbo pencil in Milk and followed it with the White shadow from the Lorac Pro palette.  After that I spread the blue shadow starting from the outer corner to concentrate most of the color there and began blending it in to create an ombre effect.  Finally I took Taupe from the Lorac Pro palette and blended everything out.

The final palette I picked up is called Music City and it is by far the most most wearable day to day.   Again all of the shadows are shimmery which isn't a terrible thing in this palette.  Overall I tend to reach for a matte transition color, but any of these are acceptable lid colors.

The final look I created used Music City on the lid and the blue shadow from NOLA on the lower lash line.  I took the light cream shadow from Music City and put it on the inner half of my lid and took the darkest shade on the outer half and blended out with Taupe from the Lorac Pro palette.  Overall I would wear the look daily without the blue, but I was playing around and liked how this turned out.

Overall if you are looking for shadows that are inexpensive I think these are wonderful; however, they do have a lot of fall out so you will have to do your eye makeup prior to the rest of your face.  They are all pigmented and show up nicely when you use your finger.  I have not experimented with using them wet; however, I can imagine that they would work nicely.

If you wish to purchase Real Colors Adventure Palettes, you can find them at Sally Beauty Supply along with the Real Colors Cosmetics line.  Again these palettes are $7.99 and there are six different ones to choose from.

Which look is your favorite?  If you want me to do video tutorial using these shadows leave your requests below!
