OCC Lip Tar Review
Hey guys!
Today I am going to share a short review of the OCC Lip Tars I have picked up recently. Each of the large tubes in the picture above retail for $18 at Sephora and on the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics website. As for the smaller tubes, these come in a set with the OCC lip primer for $19. All of the OCC Lip Tars, including the test sizes, come with a lip brush.
This is what Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics says about their Matte Lip Tars:
A liquid matte lipstick with unparalleled pigment intensity and wear time.Only the smallest amount is needed for opaque coverage. LIP TAR: MATTE™ comes packaged in a convenient vinyl-carrying case and travel-sized version of the #010 Precision Lip Brush.
Contains Organic Hemp Oil & Soy-Derived Vitamin E, for a finish that feels as good as it looks! Paraben-Free courtesy of refreshing Peppermint Oil.
100% Vegan & Cruelty-Free,
In the above picture I should note that Black Dahlia and Memento are both Matte Lip Tars while Mein Herr and Rhythm Box are classified as Stained Glosses.
This is what Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics says about their Stained Glosses.
STAINED GLOSS™ is OCC's newest texture innovation for lips. Inspired by lighting gels and stained glass, STAINED GLOSS™ combines the high impact color of Lip Tar™ with a translucent glossy finish that's ready-to-wear from its first slick application. This set contains a 0.33 oz STAINED GLOSS™, #010S Short-Handled Precision Lip Brush, and vinyl pouch.Contains Organic Hemp Oil & Soy-Derived Vitamin E, for a finish that feels as good as it looks! Paraben-Free courtesy of refreshing Peppermint Oil.
100% Vegan & Gluten-Free
These OCC Lip Tars are incredibly long wearing especially the deeper colors. I have found that I have to exfoliate my lips and apply the primer prior to applying the lighter shades. Memento and Mein Herr don't leave a long wearing stain on the lips so you have to reapply more often. With the deeper shades I always apply a clear lip liner to help with the feathering. For Memento I typically apply one light coat and let it set before I add a second light coat.
The best part about the OCC Lip Tars is that each shade can be mixed together to create endless combinations. I typically use Mein Herr as a mixing shade with the deeper colors I have. When I mixed Mein Herr and Black Dahlia together it created an interesting purple shade.
Above is Mein Herr which is described as "creme fraiche beige". As you can see in the photo it is a really pale nude that is similar to my skin tone. For this reason I don't wear it on its own. Also you can see that it is fairly sheer since it is a Stained Gloss.
Above is Rhythm Box which is described as a translucent burgundy. Again the Stained Gloss formula seems much less opaque; however, the deeper color here seems to perform better.
Before I show you the swatch of Black Dahlia let me scare you with the color it comes out of the tube!
Black Dahlia is my favorite of the Lip Tars I have picked up. It is described as a blackest, blackened red. To me it seems to have a lot of purple undertones and it is very appropriate for the season! If you don't want to have it in the matte formula it also comes in Black Dahlia Metal. This Lip Tar will stain your lips and wear beautifully. If you eat or drink a lot it will certainly wear off some but the stain left behind is a muted version of the picture above.
Have you tried any of these OCC Lip Tars for yourself? If so what was your favorite shade?
