Wooden Pallet Inspired Coasters

by - September 24, 2013

Hello again everyone I am bringing you yet another Pinterest project.  This time around is the wooden pallet coasters.

Basically what you need for this project are some popsicle sticks (the full sized ones), a hot glue gun, and some stain (if you choose) and some patience to cut the ends of the sticks off. So let's get started!

As you can see the stain I used was Rustoleum in weathered grey from Hobby Lobby it's in the craft paint aisle just a small can is more than enough I promise!

Your first step is going to be to cut off the rounded ends of your popsicle sticks.  Pretty easy just takes a long time and sends lots of little pieces flying around, trust me I still find pieces every now and again.  The next step is going to be the staining of the popsicle sticks all I did for this was paint the stain on and immediately wipe it off with a paper towel because the popsicle sticks absorbed the stain really fast.  Let them dry for about a half hour or so, by the time I was finished staining, the first ones I stained were dry so it really doesn't take long.

My next step was to cut two pieces shorter to make a rectangular box on the bottom was just to ensure that the pieces for the top would fit with some overhang, go ahead and cut as many as you are going to need for a set of coasters (I made 4 so I cut 8 smaller pieces like this).  Next glue the smaller pieces to two longer pieces so they will rest on the narrow end as shown above.  Next glue the top pieces down.

Don't worry too much about the spaces in the top after all you are wanting a pallet look.  Keep in mind that this is going to be a little flimsy like this (trust me) so go ahead and cut some popsicle sticks to be glued to the underside of the top pieces (they will be glued directly to the underside of the top pieces so they will be perpendicular to the direction of the top.  This will greatly strengthen the coaster.

Finally just set your drinks on it and enjoy!
