Maple Holistics Tea Tree Shampoo Review

by - November 05, 2017

Hey loves!

Today I am going to write about my experience using the Tea Tree shampoo from Maple Holistics, and a little about the company itself.   I don't know if I have ever mentioned my specific hair type on this blog, but if you have seen any photos I have posted of myself, you probably have a pretty good idea.  I have the most unruly thick hair imaginable.  To make matters even worse, my hair is thick, wavy, and I am prone to dandruff.  What a combination!  All of these things run in my family, so it's not surprising that I have the same problems.

I have personally tried so many different Tea Tree products over the years for my hair, and have had varying degrees of success so when Maple Holistics approached me about their Tea Tree shampoo I was definitely interested.  I personally had not heard of the brand, so I checked out the brand's "about" page to learn a bit more.  According to their website, Maple Holistics was established in 2001 with the goal of providing "a natural, holistic range of premium products that can enhance hygiene, health, and daily living."  The photo below is a screenshot from their "about" page that lists a few bullet points about the brand.

After taking a look around the Maple Holistics website, I noticed that the brand offers their products on Amazon for a very affordable price, and in my opinion this is the best way to explore the entire line of products offered by the brand; however, if you know the exact product you are searching for you can search the product and buy from Maple Holistics website.  The brand itself offers various shampoos (like the Tea Tree shampoo I tried), conditioners, massage oils, essential oils, along with many more products.  Also on their website, I noticed that the brand maintains a blog as well so if you are interested in finding out more information about subjects such as "Green Tea Health Benefits" feel free to click this link to explore!

The brand also offers a subscription box that costs $40 a month that will include a shampoo, a conditioner, an essential oil, and one bonus product like the box in the photo below from the website.  According to the website, the current box will include the Tea Tree Shampoo and Tea Tree Conditioner, a Rosemary Essential oil and one additional product.

The final thing I want to talk about before I go on to my review of the Tea Tree shampoo is the "free product" tab on the Maple Holistics website.  All you have to do is go explore their products and select (from a drop down menu) which of their products you would like to try a sample of and fill out a form with your information on it.  It's really as easy as that, so if you would like to try one of their products before you make the dive, go ahead and fill out this form.

Now let's talk about the Tea Tree Oil shampoo that I have been testing out for the last month.  The bottle of shampoo is only 8 fluid ounces (236 ml) of product, so my first thoughts were that I would use up the entire bottle in only a couple of washes.  Like I mentioned above, I have a ton of thick hair and these days my hair reaches about mid back.  I am happy to say that I have been using the same bottle of shampoo for the entire month, and I am only about half way through the bottle.  I found that the product itself is quite difficult to squeeze out of the bottle because it is rather thick and viscous; however, this also helps me control how much I use.  You really only need a small amount of the shampoo to get a good lather in the hair, so for me I use somewhere between a quarter and a half dollar sized amount.

Personally I love the tingling feeling that Tea Tree shampoos have, and this one seems to be a bit more tingly that the last few I have tried, though it is possible that I was getting used to the feeling again since it had been a few months since the last one I tried.  I have to admit that the first few washes with the Maple Holistics Tea Tree shampoo I was not impressed, but I wasn't letting the shampoo sit on my scalp for the two to three minutes that the brand recommends.  Instead I was just using it as a regular shampoo and immediately rinsing it out meaning I wasn't getting any of the benefits of the shampoo.  Since finally reading the bottle, I use the shampoo as recommended and I have had much better results.

I'm going to leave this link to a blog post on the Maple Holistics blog page that talks more about using tea tree oil, and tea tree shampoos for treating dandruff.  The post also mentions the benefits of tea tree oil, along with an entire section that talks about combining tea tree oil with argan oil or coconut oil.  If you search "tea tree" in the search on the Maple Holistics blog, you will find several articles talking about the various uses of tea tree oils, so be sure to check out their blog for more information.

Typically I use the Tea Tree shampoo as my first rinse, so I step into the shower and make sure my hair is completely drenched before using a small amount of the shampoo.  I work it to a lather and really focus on the scalp with a massage with my fingertips (never my nails) before I let the shampoo sit on my hair for several minutes.  I either go on with a fun jam session, or shave my legs anything to distract me for those few minutes before I rinse out and use a moisturizing conditioner on my hair.

Like I mentioned above, the Tea Tree shampoo is available on the Maple Holistics website (the easiest way to find it is to search "Tea Tree" in the search box).  If you order from the Maple Holistics website the shampoo is $8.95 for the 8 ounce bottle, and if you place an order over $25 you can get free shipping.  However, you can also order the same product from the company on Amazon and pay $10.45 for a one time purchase, or you can "subscribe and save" so the price is $9.93.

I have included a the product's ingredients below from Amazon for you to check to make sure you aren't allergic to any of the ingredients before you purchase.
Aqua, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Sodium Lauryl Glucoside Carboxylate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Acrylates Copolymer, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Glyceryl Caprylate, Glycerin, Sodium PCA, D-Panthenol, Simmondia chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Botanical Keratin, Argania spinosa (Argan) Oil, Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) Oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Oil.
In short, I have to say that I really enjoy this shampoo.  I was really afraid that I would use the entire bottle in just a few uses; however, I am happy to say that the thicker formula means that I can use less product to achieve the same amount of lather.  I can really say that I will likely purchase this shampoo again when I run out because the small bottle is easier to travel with than the larger bottles from the store ( I know you can transfer some into travel size bottles, but to be honest I'm just too lazy to do so).  Be sure to check out the Maple Holistics website if you are interested in natural hair care, oils, and other body care products.

I know I have been absent for quite some time, but I am really hoping to get much better about posting.   I have so many reviews, and new things planned for this space so keep an eye out for new things very soon!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend, and I'll be back very soon!
