Mary Kay Clear Poof Acne System Review

by - November 25, 2014

Hey guys!

I hope you are having a great day!  I was sent the Mary Kay Clear Proof Acne System by Mary Kay and Influenster at the end of October.  If you follow me on Instagram you saw me put up the post below.  Well it's now a month later and it's time for me to update you on the system!

I started by using the entire system twice a day. I would first cleanse my skin with the Clarifying Cleansing Gel followed by the Blemish Control Toner and finally the Oil Free Moisturizer.  If I had any large acne bumps I would apply the Acne Treatment Gel twice a day; however, I tried to focus on using it at night.  After a week of using the entire system twice a day I noticed that my skin was much clearer; however, my skin was starting to become extremely dry and flaking.  If you are new to my blog I will mention that I have oily skin, and I have for as long as I can remember.  I noticed I had dry patches on my cheeks and my chin where I am usually the most oily.  After that experience I decided to just use the system at night.  I also began using the Clarifying Cleansing Gel with the Olay ProX Cleansing Brush and it really helped with the really dry patches.

To this day I am not sure if it was the combination of the sudden change in the weather and my skin getting used to this system that caused the extreme reaction; however, I am still using the system once a day.

The entire Clear Proof regimen can be purchased for $45 from Mary Kay, or you can purchase each piece individually.  Mary Kay also has the Clear Proof The Go Set if you just want to try the products out for $20.

The Clear Proof Clarifying Cleansing Gel is $16 when bought separately and the bottle contains 4.5 oz.  I only use about a nickel sized amount of the gel so this bottle will last a really long time!  I really love using this cleansing gel at night after I remove my makeup with the Ponds Cold Cream.  The combination of the two really takes every bit of my makeup off and leaves my skin actually feeling clean!  Below is what Mary Kay says about the Clarifying Cleansing Gel.

  • Contains 2% salicylic acid
  • Gently removes dirt, oil, and complexion-dulling impurities
  • Deep cleanses skin to penetrate and clear pores
  • Helps reduce and control shine, leaving skin with a beautiful matte finish
  • Does not strip skin of moisture
  • Leaves skin feeling smooth and fresh
The Clear Proof Blemish Control Toner is $15 when bought separately and the bottle contains 5 oz of product.  Whatever makeup is left on my face after using the Ponds Cold Cream and the Clarifying Cleansing Gel will be taken off by this toner.  Not to mention after I use this toner my skin actually feels like it is tighter and cleaner.  This is the product that I have gone through the fastest out of the entire system.  I have finished half of the bottle in one month.  Below is what Mary Kay says about the Blemish Control Toner.

  • Contains 2% salicylic acid
  • Tones without overdrying
  • Cleanses skin completely and helps control shine
  • Helps exfoliate dead surface skin cells and helps keep pores clean
  • Helps remove excess oil
  • Leaves skin feeling soft and supple
The Clear Proof Oil-Free Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin is sold for $18 separately for 3 oz of product.  This is a thin moisturizer that absorbs quickly without leaving my skin feeling greasy.  Overall I really like it and I am glad Mary Kay includes a moisturizer in the set.  I feel like it is a misconception that people with oily skin don't need a moisturizer.  I didn't use one for the longest time because I didn't want to add that extra moisture into my skin, but this one works well!  Below is what Mary Kay says about the Oil-Free Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin.

  • Replenishes moisture to provide balanced hydration
  • Is lightweight and quick absorbing with no oily or greasy feel
  • Does not clog pores
  • Helps control excess oil, leaving skin with a beautiful matte finish
  • Feels soothing to irritated skin
  • Leaves skin feeling healthier, nourished and smooth
The last product in the kit is the Clear Proof Acne Treatment Gel which can be purchased for $10 separately for 1 oz of product.  I just use this as a spot treatment around my face.  While this isn't the fastest spot treatment I have used I do feel that it is the least irritating.  When I first started using the kit I had an acne spot that had popped up under my brows that would not go away.  Once I started putting this treatment gel on it that spot went away in about a week.  I should also note that this spot treatment has 5% benzoyl peroxide in it.  I was terrified to use it because not long ago I had tried a cleanser that has 5% benzoyl peroxide in it that burned my face, but this didn't seem to do that. Below is what Mary Kay says about the Acne Treatment Gel.

  • Contains 5% benzoyl peroxide
  • Clears up blemishes without irritating skin
  • Helps visibly reduce the redness and size of pimples
  • Helps visibly reduce the number of blackheads
  • Helps clear up pimples fast while helping prevent new ones from forming
  • Helps fade the look of lingering acne spots

Mary Kay also has a Clear Proof Pore-Purifying Serum that can be purchased for $17 that is separate from the regimen.

The last thing I am going to leave you with is a picture of my skin before and after using the system.  The photo on the left is before I started the regimen and after is this past Saturday.  I should note that the picture on the right is a screen grab from an upcoming tutorial and I only have my eye makeup done.  As you can see on the left I had a lot of small acne as well as larger bumps and a lot of scaring and on the right it is much less.  I still have large acne but the smaller bumps are gone and the scarring is much less.

Again you can purchase the entire set for $45 or the travel set for $20.

I received the products mentioned above to review from Influenster and Mary Kay.  All opinions are 100% my own.
