What's New In Makeup and Beauty - March 4, 2018

by - March 04, 2018

Hey loves!

I have mentioned it in the past, but I have decided that I am going to work on a weekly or biweekly post of all the new products in the beauty and makeup world.  Some weeks there will obviously be more to share with you guys than other weeks; however, I am going to do my best to keep this up.   I know I personally am on a low buy because I went on a bit of a spree at the end of 2017, but I love to keep up with the new releases and I will be sharing a few thoughts of the new items coming out.  Like I mentioned a second ago I am on a low buy and I have plenty of palettes and items that I will share swatches and thoughts on over the next several months.

With all of that said, let's get on to some of the new releases!

Anastasia Beverly Hills has several new releases this spring including a new palette in their line called the Soft Glam Palette which is retailing for $42.  While this palette screams my name as something that I would reach for every day, I am going to have to pass on it personally.  I love Anastasia's shadow formula; however, many of these shades are repeats from other palettes or I already have in the single form.  I know that Tempera and Burnt Orange were both in the Modern Renaissance palette, and I personally own Burnt Orange in a single pan as well.

Also included in their spring launch is a powder bronzer retailing for $28 avaliable in six shades.  The ABH website describes these bronzers as "a finely-milled formula that offers buildable coverage and seamless blending.  with a natural matte finish, this powder bronzer feels traceless on the face and body, adding warmth for a sunkissed look."  The shades in the line are listed below with their shade descriptions.

  • Rosewood - light golden
  • Tawny - light terracotta brown
  • Rich Amber - neutral honey
  • Cappuccino - deep golden brown
  • Saddle - golden amber
  • Mahogany - mocha
Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter
(Photo from ABH website)

ABH partnered with influencer Amrezy to create the Amrezy highlighter which is described on their website as as a light brilliant gold highlighter.  I saw somewhere where this highlighter was intended to be a perfect shade for all skin tones.  Personally this shade really appeals to me because I have been loving the Ofra highlighter in Rodeo Drive recently.  The ABH Amrezy highlighter is currently available on the ABH website and will be out at mass retailers in the beginning of March.

Keep in mind if you are interested in the Amrezy highlighter it is a limited edition item.

ABH has also released 11 new shades of their liquid lipsticks which expands the range to 46 shades in total.  All shades are available on the brand's website for $20 each.  I have included the new shades with the shade description from the website, and a swatch photo from the brand's Instagram page.

  • Hudson - faded terracotta
  • Maude - cedar brown
  • Malt - chocolate brown
  • Bittersweet - brown plum
  • Dazed - redwood
  • Bohemian - cedar brown
  • Poet - dusty mauve
  • Grim - greige
  • Insomniac - faded teal
  • Requiem - metallic blackened teal
  • Nocturnal - indigo blue
I saw a mention of a sneak peek of ABH's Summer 2018 Glow Kit.  I'm sure more information will be released on this shortly; however, it is believed to be named the "Dream Glow Kit".

Now let's talk about the Besame Snow White Collection.  Besame has added two new eight (8) pan palettes to the collection inspired by the 1937 classic film.  The brand previously released a larger palette along with several bags, a mini "Seven Dwarfs lipstick set", and a classic "Snow White" red lipstick.   The two new palettes retail for $38 a piece on the Besame Cosmetics website, and will begin shipping the week of March 5th.

The I'm Wishing palette (swatches on the left are from the Besame Cosmetics website) contains several soft colors including a white, a light blue, a light taupe, and a light rose.  The top row of the palette includes the more vibrant colors like a mustard yellow-brown, a navy blue, a deeper brown-grey, and a coral orange shade.

It should be noted once again that the colors of the palette are inspired by the colors used by the Disney Ink and Paint Department in the 1937 film, and the shades and will be great for collectors.  If you look closely in the photo to the left, Besame has included a few eye looks that can be done with this palette and you will notice that they are all very soft looks.  I'm personally passing on this palette because these blue shades I would never get use of.  However, the next palette has a possibility of landing in my collection.

The Keep Singing palette is the more vibrant sister of the I'm Wishing palette and contains a blue, a black, a green, a red, and a vibrant yellow.  The yellow shadow definitely looks a bit on the chalky side in the swatches from the Besame Cosmetics website, but this kind of neon yellow shadow will contain lots of white to get the color just right.  The palette also contains a white, a light nude shade, and a beautiful gunmetal grey.

As I mentioned above the two palettes contain eight shades of 1.5 grams each for a total of 12 grams total (per palette).  Also take note that if you choose to purchase from this collection all sales are final and exchanges are only available if you have damages.

Now let's talk the Bobbi Brown Capri Spring Collection.  Personally this collection doesn't scream spring to me at all; however, this doesn't really come as a surprise to me since Bobbi Brown is known for the less daring makeup.

The collection will contain seven items with the collection centering around the Capri Eyeshadow Palette which contains nine shadows for $75.  I have to say that I feel like I have seen this palette before, but it certainly is gorgeous with that pop of navy.  The shades are listed below.

  • Cream - warm white
  • Slate - medium grey
  • Maple Sugar - light beige
  • Pebble - soft silver
  • Champage Quartz - champagne pink
  • Caviar - black brown
  • Nude Glow - shimmering champagne
  • Oyster - warm silver
  • Rich Navy - deep royal blue
The collection also includes the All Over Glow liquid highlighter for $39, two dual ended liquid liners in 01 Cioccolato/ Frizzante (black and brown), and 02 Azzuro/ Oro (blue and gold) for $40, and a nail polish in the shade Pomodoro for $16.  The collection is inspired by the Capri Island, and is currently available on the Nordstrom website.

Let's breeze through a couple small releases shall we?

Fenty Beauty Dirty Thirty
Limited Edition Highlighter
First is the Fenty Beauty release of the "Dirty Thirty" Killawatt Highlighter.  The highlighter is a limited edition version of "Trophy Wife" which is in the permanent Fenty line; however, this version has the roman numerals of thirty pressed into the top to celebrate Rhianna's birthday.  Huge happy birthday to her.  If you wish to find this one for yourself you can grab it from the Fenty Beauty website for $34.

Too Faced is also on the birthday celebration train with the release of the "Better Than Birthday Sex" mascara.  This is just a limited edition release of the Better Than Sex mascara in glitter packaging to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Too Faced.  Keep an eye on Too Faced if you are interested in this release, otherwise the Better Than Sex mascara is available for $23.

The next release is definitely the biggest bummer of the week.  Tati Westbrook aka glamlifeguru on YouTube has announced and released her brand on March 2.  After sneak peeking the luxurious lid to the packaging, the makeup world immediately thought that she would be releasing her own makeup or skincare line.  Personally I thought that she was releasing a lovely loose powder or possibly a potted moisturizer.  I never thought that she was releasing a line of vitamins.  Yes you just read that right,  Tati's brand is Halo Beauty is a hair, skin, and nail vitamin in a pink capsule and a frosted bottle.  I personally had to watch her official announcement video twice just to make sure that I didn't miss the actual product.  I really thought it was a bit of an April Fool's joke since supplements isn't what Tati Westbrook is known for, and she has definitely sold me on many makeup products over the years.  Regardless, good for her and it will definitely be interesting to see if the line expands.

The brand offers the supplement in a 30 day supply for $39.95 plus shipping.  The brand makes tons of claims with this product which I will leave below (all the claims are from the Halo Beauty website).
  • Promotes thick and luscious hair growth
  • Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles
  • Supports collagen and keratin production
  • Promotes strong healthy nails
  • Anti-gray fighting enzymes

Another lackluster sneak peek is coming from Kat Von D (photo is from her Instagram page).  She has sneak peeked the "Lash Liner" which is essentially a liquid liner designed for the inner rim and water line.  I love the packaging (and let's take a moment to praise those gorgeous nails) but I am going to pass on this.  I use pencil liners the most because I just struggle with liquid liners of all types, so it would be amazing if she could work on some budge-proof pencil liners that are skinnier than the Basket Case liner.  I haven't seen any word of the release date for the Lash Liner; however, I'm sure it's not far off.

Laura Mercier has released the Flawless Fusion Concealer which is available in 12 shades for $28.   The description on Sephora's page states that this concealer is a medium to full coverage concealer that is weightless.  The concealer hydrates, perfects, and blurs imperfections for 12 hours of crease resistant wear.  The concealer is oil free and formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phtalates.

Speaking of Sephora, I'm going to quickly mention a rumor of a new brand coming to their stores in May.  All I have really seen is snapshots of the brand's Instagram page lurking in comments sections, and a brief mention that they are releasing in Sephora in May.  O.B.L.I.V.I.O.U.S. Cosmetics (Oblivious Cosmetics) own Instagram page only has one photo with their logo and a brief description stating that they are launching "with the help of Sephora" in May 2018.  It should be noted that this photo was posted on February 12, so who knows when we will see products from the brand, but they are certainly causing a stir.

Tarte be a mermaid & make waves palette
swatches from Allure.com
Tarte is back on the release of things that just need to be left alone with the release of the "be a mermaid & make waves" palette (yes the name of the palette really is that, and yes it is in lowercase on the website which bothers me).  I understand that the mermaid trend was a big thing, and I was ok with the trend; however, I feel that the trend doesn't fit with Tarte's branding.  The palette is in the shape of a clamshell with an unusual pan shape that reminds me of the Trendmood x Ciate palette (that still hasn't released).  I suppose those pans are supposed to be scales which doesn't bother me.  The palette will contain 14 shades of 0.8 grams each.  Apparently the palette has been spotted in some Sephora stores; however, I don't know the official release date.  The fourteen shades and their descriptions are below.
  • Nude Beach - pale gold luster
  • Shore - sienna
  • Frose - rose gold luster
  • Beach Please - maroon luster
  • Mermosa - warm gold
  • Cavern - burgundy luster
  • Fin-tastic - antique bronze
  • Sandbar - milk chocolate
  • Salt Water - pale taupe luster
  • Shipwreck - mahogany
  • Shell Yea - bronze luster
  • Bubbles - lilac duochrome
  • Splash - turquoise luster
  • Lagoon - teal luster

Too Faced Life's A Festival Collection
(Photo from Cosmopolitan.com)
In really old news that I'm just going to quickly address (with a photo and the prices of everything below), the Too Faced Life's A Festival Collection has released.  This is definitely not my cuppa, so I'm just going to leave it at that.  However, if you are interested I just received an email from Sephora about the collection being available.
  • Life's A Festival Peace, Love, and Unicorns Palette - $42
  • Magic Rainbow Strobing Brush - $34
  • Unicorn Tears Iridescent Mystical Bronzer - $30
  • Festival Refresh Mystical Effects Refreshing and Setting Spray - $24
  • La Creme Mystical Effects Lipstick $22 (four shades)
  • Magic Crystal Transforming Lipgloss - $19 (four shades)
  • Rainbow Strobe Rainbow Effect Highlighter $30
  • Unicorn Horn Mystical Effects Highlighting Stick - $28 (two shades)
Kylie Cosmetics Weather Collection
Photo from Kylie Cosmetics
Kylie Cosmetics has released the Weather Collection which is a celebration of Kylie's first child, Stormi.  I appreciate that the entire collection gives a nod to Stormi's name, but doesn't focus on it.  The collection contains
two eyeshadow palettes that contain ten shadows each.  Both palettes, The Calm Before The Storm (the pastel palette) and Eye Of The Storm, are $40 on the website, and both are currently available.  The collection also includes a four pan highlighter palette ($44).  All of the above mentioned products are in stock; however, all the other items are sold out.

Quickly I want to mention that two brands are now available at Ulta.  First up is Colourpop which is now available online and in select Ulta stores.  If you remember several months ago, Colourpop was also released at Sephora.  There are collections that will be available at Ulta that won't be at Sephora, so keep an eye out for those.  The next brand released at Ulta is Storybook Cosmetics which has several eyeshadow palettes ($55 each) that are inspired by various books and movies such as the Witchcraft and Wizardry eyeshadow palette inspired by Harry Potter.  At this time, Storybook Cosmetics items are only available online.

Finally we have reached the end of this update.  Wordy I know!  Hopefully the next one will be a little shorter, but who knows.  Let me know if you have an item you are looking forward to, or if you have any releases you are looking forward to!
